Society for Music Theory

We now have available an online registration system through which you can join SMT or renew your membership. Since we are taking over management of our membership lists from the University of California press, we will ask you for basic membership information (address, institutional affiliation, and so on) so that we can ensure that the information we have on file is correct. We also ask for some basic demographic information. Although submission of the latter is optional, it is quite important for the broader mission of the Society, and we encourage you to provide this information (your information will be kept confidential within the society).

We use PayPal for the processing of payments for registration. You do not have to have a PayPal account to make use of this service; you do, however, have to have one of the common major credit cards.

If you have already logged into this website (and therefore have an account)

1. Click "My account" on the left-hand side, and then "SMT Information" on the top.
2. Update any information as necessary and click submit.
3. Immediately below the submit button are multiple payment options, depending on the type of membership you wish to have. Choose one, and you will be sent to PayPal to complete the transaction. You do not have to join PayPal to use this service.

If you have not already logged into this website (and therefore do not have an account)

1. First create an account with our website. After you verify your e-mail address, log in to the site.
2. After you are logged in, follow the steps listed above.

While joining online is the most secure and efficient method, you may also join by mail. We have a form available as a PDF which you can download and print out.
