Mission statement
The aim of SMT-Rus is to discuss, promote, and engage with Russian music-theoretical traditions. This includes approaches that intersect with those studied by Western scholars, as well as areas/concepts that are unique to Russian scholarship. It also includes materials originally written in the Russian language in the pre-1917 Russian Empire, as well as in the modern post-Soviet space. One of our aims is the study of Russian music using any analytical tools. This interest group was inaugurated at the 2013 SMT meeting in Charlotte, NC.
Activities
The Russian Music Theory Interest Group meets at SMT’s annual meetings in order to discuss scholarly work, sponsor invited presentations, discussion forums, and special topic sessions. Everyone is welcome to attend.

This interest group maintains its own page on Humanities Commons, which anybody can join.
