Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Associate Professor

The Department of Music and Theater at Manhattan College invites applications for a one-year, full-time Visiting Assistant or Visiting Associate Professor position in Music beginning August 29, 2022. The successful candidate will join a small, active department that is dedicated to teaching undergraduate liberal arts students in music history, music theory, performance studies, audio recording and editing, and the contemporary listening environment.

The candidate will have a 3-4 teaching load and support the development of the Sound Studies major, which, depending on the candidate’s area of expertise, could include the following: history of sound recording and audio technology, a humanities-based music history course, fundamentals of music theory, advanced music theory, and upper-level seminars in sound composition, audio recording, and acoustics.

We seek faculty members with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring who will create a climate that embraces diversity, to attract and retain a talented student body. Manhattan College and its faculty view research and teaching as mutually supportive activities.


The candidate must hold an earned doctorate (DMA or Ph.D.) in music (musicology, ethnomusicology, music theory, composition, or performance) and demonstrate an established record of teaching in a liberal arts environment, engaged in an active research agenda, and have some management or leadership experience at the departmental level. Although the area of specialization for this position is open, we particularly welcome applicants with research and teaching interests in sound studies and digital audio composition.

$70,000 to $79,500
