The University of Wisconsin–Madison Mead Witter School of Music invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in MUSIC THEORY. The School of Music is seeking a researcher with expertise in music theory to broaden and diversify its current offerings in European/American music and to assist in reshaping the undergraduate music-theory curriculum.

The Mead Witter School of Music serves some 300 undergraduate majors and graduate students in BA, BS, BM, MA, MM, DMA, and PHD degree programs, and is committed to fostering diverse, inclusive, and collegial academic and musical communities and to increasing diversity among its faculty and students. JOB DESCRIPTION

In addition to pursuing a program of research and publication consistent with a tenure-track appointment, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute vigorously to the School of Music’s educational mission, and to assist in recruiting a diverse population of undergraduate majors and graduate students. The person appointed to the position will teach both undergraduate and graduate-level courses. Other responsibilities to include advising and mentoring graduate students, serving on degree committees, and on other committees at the departmental, college, and university levels.

QUALIFICATIONS

PHD in music theory or cognate field required by the position start date. Candidates for the position must be actively engaged in research in music theory, broadly construed. Applications from researchers in all areas of specialization are welcome, including those working in emerging interdisciplines. Preference will be given to candidates with college-level teaching experience (to be understood as including teaching assistantships).

SALARY
The appointment is full time for the nine-month academic calendar, beginning August 22, 2022; salary negotiable.
