The Department of Music at Knox College (Galesburg, IL) invites applications for a full-time, one-year appointment as visiting assistant professor of music beginning September 1, 2023. The successful candidate will demonstrate creativity and innovation in music theory, excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentorship within a liberal arts environment, and dedication to service and teaching within a diverse community.
Visiting faculty members at Knox are included in the professional and intellectual life of the College. The visiting faculty member will have a modest annual conference travel budget and access to research resources.
In addition to courses in the core music theory sequence, teaching responsibilities will include an elective for non-majors in music history (please briefly discuss area of expertise for this course in the letter of application) and a 300-level seminar in the music of the common-practice period.
This appointment is a full-time position. Teaching responsibilities include two classes per each of three 10-week terms (Fall, Winter, Spring), as well as contributing to support for advanced students in Music.
Qualifications: PhD in Music Theory or a related field expected at time of appointment;
exceptional ABD candidates will be considered.
