The administrator works closely with the music theory program director to manage and execute all administrative and operational functions for the Music Theory and History program during the academic year, including J-term and summer. The administrator coordinates with faculty, program directors, department administrators, and advisors in the department on matters involving academic programing, registration, enrollment, course equivalency, placement, curriculum, and program needs for the music theory and history program. This position will begin Fall 2023.
Responsibilities include creating and managing the course schedule for approximately 60 music theory and history courses each semester; managing the program budget, course registration and enrollment, student advisement on music theory and history courses, managing placement exams for incoming graduate and undergraduate students; and hiring, supervising, and mentoring student music theory tutors. The program administrator works closely with the program director and other faculty to compile, manage, and edit music theory and history curriculum materials, coordinate guest speakers, maintain and edit online course text and resources, and assist with updating current music theory and history courses. The administrator will provide support for new curriculum topics, technology, and course resources, and provide support for new initiatives and projects within the program in collaboration with students, faculty, and advisors. This position does not include any teaching; it is a full-time administrative position.
A graduate degree in Music Theory (or another field of music with appropriate specialization and experience) and 2+ years of teaching experience is strongly preferred.
2+ years of administrative experience is required (which may broadly include any kind of academic department, teaching, or committee work.)
Additional experience working with Musition, Auralia, Brightspace, the Google suite, and music notation programs are especially helpful, but not required.
