The Music Department at Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT) seeks a highly creative outstanding artist/scholar in music performance/composition with a primary background in African American musics, especially jazz or other 20th- and 21st-century genres. Interests that cross disciplinary boundaries are welcome, as are additional fields of expertise.

This is a full-time tenure-line Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor position to begin July 1, 2024.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Directing a performance ensemble, teaching undergraduate courses and a graduate composition seminar related to the candidate’s areas of expertise, and advising undergraduate and graduate theses and capstone projects. Additional duties include advising both major and non-major undergraduates and participating in faculty governance at the departmental and university level. The teaching load is 2 courses per semester (fall/spring).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in music or a related field.

Courses given by the Music department range from introductory to graduate level. The program offers a strong undergraduate major, the M.A. in music, and the Ph.D. in ethnomusicology, all with a long-standing interest in performance and cultural studies. Particular areas of strength include: experimental and digital, American, African, East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, Central Asian, and European musics.
