The Department of Music is seeking to appoint an innovative and visionary academic with specialist expertise in the field of Global Music Industries (broadly defined), to consolidate and advance the profile and breadth of our teaching and research in this area. We may appoint a University Teacher or Lecturer, depending upon the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

0.8 FTE for 3 years with the potential to become open-ended.

JOB DESCRIPTION

In either role, you will be part of a team leading, developing and delivering teaching across the Department’s undergraduate BMus in Music and postgraduate taught programmes, in particular the MA in Music Management, with a focus on teaching in the area of Global Music Industries. Your area of contribution may range from audience research, music business, live performance staging, entrepreneurship in music, to digital music innovation and the intersection of music and new media. You would draw on different disciplinary knowledge and methods and take an international perspective. You will work collaboratively with academic and Professional Service colleagues to deliver excellent teaching via a range of digital and face-to-face formats, undertake marking and administrative duties, and provide supervision for students engaged in extended independent study. You will undertake a proactive role in enhancing our reputation for high-quality and innovative teaching, and in delivering an excellent student experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will engage in an independent programme of scholarship in your field to inform the curriculum and pedagogy of our programmes. You will also provide pastoral support to students, signposting appropriate services for academic support, mental health and well-being as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS

For appointment as a University Teacher, you will have significant experience and expertise in the area of Global Music Industries, as a teacher, scholar and/or professional. You will have a track record of innovative approaches to teaching and communication, and experience of programme development and leadership. You will have a higher degree and evidence of scholarship.

For appointment as a Lecturer, in addition to Learning and Teaching experience and expertise, you will also have a strong track record of research, research dissemination and evidence of the ability for successful grant capture. You will have a PhD or equivalent.

You must be based in the UK, and willing to work on campus in Sheffield (i.e. to deliver face-to-face teaching and attend in-person training, meetings and other events) throughout the working year.

SALARY
£45,737 to £54,421 pro rata. Potential to progress to £61,228 per annum pro rata through sustained exceptional contribution

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
