The program committee for the 2022 meeting of the Music Theory Society of New York State (MTSNYS) invites proposals for papers and presentations on any topic related to music theory and analysis. Continuing our celebration of MTSNYS’s 50-year history, our annual meeting will be held April 9–10 at the site of our first meeting, the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, and will honor the occasion with a new 50th Anniversary Award. MTSNYS was established in 1971 to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas pertaining to teaching music theory, and to promote music theory as a scholarly and pedagogical discipline. We honor those ideals with two awards: • The Patricia Carpenter Emerging Scholar Award is given to the best student paper at the annual meeting, and it carries a cash prize and invitation to publish the paper in the society’s journal Theory and Practice. • The 50th Anniversary Award will be given to the best paper presented at the MTSNYS annual meeting that critically engages with issues of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, disability, or nationality. Scholars at any career stage are eligible for this award, which carries a cash prize and invitation to publish the paper in Theory and Practice. 300-word proposals are due by Tuesday, January 18. Please see MTSNYS website for full details.
