GENERAL INFO

The Department of Musicology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position (open rank) in musicology (including ethnomusicology and music theory). Responsibilities include graduate and undergraduate teaching and advising, independent and original research (including application for research grants), and departmental service.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities include the teaching of required and elective courses in the candidate’s field(s) of specialization (at the B.A. and M.A. degree levels). Successful candidates are expected to conduct independent and original research at the highest academic level, demonstrate academic leadership, compete for Israeli and international research grants, and should display an ability to work cooperatively with colleagues in the Faculty of Humanities and the university at large. Where pertinent and in accordance with inter-departmental needs, a joint departmental appointment or teaching sharing arrangement may be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS

The position is open to everyone with a Ph.D. degree, and to advanced doctoral students who expect to be granted their Ph.D. no later than June 30, 2025.

The Hebrew University’s primary language of instruction is Hebrew. However, the possibility of teaching one or more courses in English may be considered. Candidates who are unable to teach in Hebrew will be expected to attain teaching-level competence in the language during the initial years following their appointment.

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
