Proceedings will begin at 12:45pm on Friday, April 12 and conclude at 6pm on Saturday, April 13.

The conference will feature five panels:

“Politics, Empowerment & (Music) Criticism”

“Body Politics & Performance Amidst Criticism”

“Criticism Meets Musicology”

“Media/Mediation: Hearing and Seeing Music Criticism”

“Criticism in the Transnational Sphere: Ethics & Regimes of Control”

Our keynote speaker is Prof. Lucy Caplan (Assistant Professor of Music, Worcester Polytechnic Institute). We will also be holding a roundtable featuring Dr. Caplan, A.Z. Madonna (Music Critic, The Boston Globe), and Amelia Mason (Senior Arts & Culture Reporter, WBUR). And, in collaboration with Harvard Music Department’s Southern-Pian Society, we will host a film screening of Boston-based musician, composer, and educator Fabiola Méndez’s film Negrura followed by a talkback with Ms. Méndez.
