In association with the IMS Study Group “Global History of Music”

The Asian-German Studies in Music Working Group** is holding a pre-conference seminar online from August 8 to 9, 2022, prior to the IMS2022 Congress in Athens. We invite interested researchers, teachers, and art practitioners to share work-in-progress in an open and supportive setting. Participants will share manuscripts of ca. 2,500 to 6,000 words in length (or work in any other appropriate format) with the seminar group two weeks in advance. In the seminar, each participant will have 5 minutes to introduce their project before a 25-minute workshop discussion.

The seminar is for anyone interested in exploring any aspect of “Asian” and “German” connections. As always, we define “Asian” and “German” broadly to include the Asian continent and the Indo-Pacific sphere and their peoples in the diasporas, and we consider the German-speaking worlds both in Europe and beyond.

To participate, please send a 250-word proposal as well as an 80-word biography to John Gabriel (john.gabriel@unimelb.edu.au) and Amanda Hsieh (amanda.hsieh@durham.ac.uk) before June 15, 2022. Collaborative projects are welcome, too.

This pre-conference seminar is additional to the session of the IMS Study Group “Global History of Music” during the IMS2022 Congress, August 22 to 26, 2022.

** The Asian-German Studies in Music Working Group also meets quarterly online to discuss readings and share ideas. Our next meeting will be on June 1, 2022. Please contact John and Amanda via the above email addresses to join the mailing list or if you have any questions.
