This is a 12-month administrative position with a renewable contract.
At Berklee, Chairs are part of the academic leadership team with responsibilities and duties that encompass the administration and supervision of department governance, curriculum, instruction, faculty management, budget, facilities management, communication, and implementation and support of College initiatives.
The Ear Training Department, a Core department, includes 8 full-time and 27 part-time faculty, providing ear training courses to all Berklee students. Departmental curriculum supports the development of basic ear training skills in rhythm, melody and harmony, as well as advanced courses in transcription, performance, harmonic, rhythmic, world music and atonal ear training.

Reporting to the Division Dean, the Department Chair’s principal responsibilities include:
> Represent the Ear Training Department as an administrative leader on- and off-campus
> Advance the student experience and the work of the Department, the Division, and the College
> Lead curriculum development, review, and management
> Facilitate faculty and staff recruitment, hires, development, mentoring, and evaluation
> Create class schedules and teaching assignments for faculty
> Advise students
> Manage Department budget and maintain accurate records
> Advance the College mission and strategic goals
> Set and realize Departmental goals
> Serve on Department, Division, and College committees
> Maintain professional engagement
> Facilitate guest artists and special events
> Other duties as assigned
> Artist/teacher with established national/international reputation as a performer, educator and administrator
> Strong communication and interpersonal skills
> Command of technology to support departmental and college-wide systems
> Masters of Music or equivalent professional experience
> Teach a minimum of one course per fall/spring semester
> An interest in working in a diverse workplace with a multicultural student body
Candidates should be excellent musicians and experienced educators, with effective administrative skills and a background of successful employment in a collegiate setting. Thorough understanding and appreciation of all contemporary musical styles and national recognition as a musician are required. A Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required.
