Applications are invited for a Guaranteed Hours (GH) contract as a tutor in Music.
Creative Musicianship – MUSI08077 – Semester 2 (January to May 2022)

A minimum of 40 hours will be offered between January and May 2022.
This is an open ended (Permanent) position.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for applications from individuals to support the Creative Musicianship course in semester 2, 2021/22. The course introduces students to basic aural skills, as well as the foundations of harmony, counterpoint, and pastiche composition. Topics covered include species counterpoint, imitative counterpoint, Bach chorales, and simple Lied accompaniment. You will need to be comfortable teaching aural skills and each of the above styles/techniques. You will be teaching predominantly first year undergraduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working with an exceptionally broad range of previous experience and skills, from those who are already competent at some or many of the skills being taught, to those who are only recently fluent in reading notation. Further essential requirements are a friendly, patient, inclusive and supportive demeanour.

Your skills and attributes for success:
> A degree relevant to the teaching area or demonstrable equivalent experience
> Excellent level of knowledge in harmony, counterpoint, pastiche composition.
> Experience of teaching aural skills
> Ability to work confidently and effectively with a diverse student cohort
> Demonstrable critical, informed and scholarly capacity to engage with a range of teaching media, including online learning and teaching

SALARY
Grade UE06: Salary Range £28,756 to £33,309 Pro-rata

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
