GENERAL INFO

The Department of Music at Northwest Nazarene University seeks qualified candidates for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track position in the area of Instrumental Performance/Music Theory. We encourage candidates with expertise in any of the following areas including, but not limited to, the following to apply: instrumental performance, music theory, composition, teaching, leadership, and recruiting.

JOB DESCRIPTION

> Oversee the instrumental applied area, including juries, masterclasses, studio support, and advising
> Maintain a strong performance resume (soloist, chamber musician, and/or orchestral) and have a proven record of performance and teaching
> Develop and teach a relevant and engaging music theory curriculum, including musicianship and music theory
> Recruit students for the department through performances, workshops, adjudicating, and strong community relations
> Collaborate with ensemble directors and studio faculty to support student growth and excellence, including facilitating recitals, masterclasses, sectionals, chamber groups, etc.
> Foster collegial relationships within the department through attending department events, meetings, and concerts
> Mentor and collaborate with a diverse range of students and to contribute to their training and development as professional artists and citizens of the world
> Uphold the Department’s and Universities shared policies and mission

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:
> Master’s degree in Applied Performance or Music theory from an accredited University
> Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience
> Evidence of successful teaching on the University, Conservatory or pre-professional level in music theory and the application of current pedagogical trends in the field
> The University requires that all candidates have a Christian perspective (preferably in the Wesleyan tradition), and must be comfortable with and in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of NNU

Preferred Qualifications:
> Doctorate degree (or ABD with degree completed by August 2022)
> Five (5) years of teaching experience in higher education
> Additional expertise in composition, commercial music, improvisation, or ensemble and chamber music instruction a plus

The salary and rank will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant and will be discussed with individual candidates as they are invited to interview for this position. Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.

Student Helpers

We are in need of student volunteers to assist during the conference. Volunteers will receive a registration fee waiver in exchange for 6.5 hours of service. The deadline to apply is September 6
