JOB DESCRIPTION

> Representation of the subject and the branch of study Music Theory in research and teaching, as well as in the area of artistic research.
> Supervision of qualification theses in the pre-graduate area as well as supervision of music theory dissertations and participation in the supervision of artistic dissertations.
> Collaboration in the development and implementation of scientific and artistic educational goals in the music theory branch of study.
> Participation in the tasks of the department in the area of teaching and research organisation.
> Collaboration in organisational and administrative tasks as well as in evaluation tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills/Qualifications:
> A degree in musicology or music theory from an Austrian university or equivalent foreign university and a relevant doctorate in musicology.
> Outstanding qualifications in research, teaching and practice in the field of music theory
> Proof of methodically reflected analytical engagement with a broad historical spectrum of music of various genres, as evidenced by international publications.
> Proof of profound knowledge of the current international state of artistic research [by reference to published articles or articles written especially for this application or own artistic research projects]
> Proof of artistic activities corresponding to the application
> Pedagogical and didactic experience in post-secondary education
> Pedagogical and didactic aptitude appropriate to the position to be filled, to be verified by means of a demonstration lesson

Specific Requirements:
> Extensive engagement with questions of composition, improvisation, especially the invention and development of music of different epochs and cultures, and with the understanding of artistic action on which they are based
> Experience in academic teaching as well as in scholarly organisation
> Experience in the conception and acquisition of third-party funding projects
> Relevant experience abroad (lecturing, research, or teaching)
> Leadership qualifications

SALARY
Gross salary, according to the collective agreement, amounts to € 5.321,70 per month (14 salaries per year). A possible higher salary, depending on qualifications and previous experience, is subject to appointment negotiations.

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.

Student Helpers

We are in need of student volunteers to assist during the conference. Volunteers will receive a registration fee waiver in exchange for 6.5 hours of service. The deadline to apply is September 6
