Full-time, one-year temporary, visiting Assistant Professor of Music, Theory and Composition

Full-time, 9 month benefited position, beginning September 1

JOB DESCRIPTION

Teach music theory and composition courses, as well as music technology courses and general education music courses, in a liberal arts setting to non-Music majors.

Teaching workload includes four courses per term (24 semester hours of credit of instruction per school year), and preparation for classroom instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities:
> Teach courses such as Basic Music Theory, Harmony I and II, Introduction to Music Technology, and other general education music courses.
> Provide student assistance including academic advising.
> Participate in curriculum review and development, program reviews and student outcomes assessment and departmental and college-wide committees.
> Attend university functions, including commencement, convocation, and faculty, committee and department meetings.
> Participate in scheduled orientation and registration programs.
> Engage in continuing scholarship and professional activities, which may include contribution to the content of the discipline, participation in or contribution to professional organizations and societies, public service and contributions to the professional growth and development of the university community.
> Opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online, and undergraduate and graduate evening courses.

QUALIFICATIONS

> Terminal degree in Music Theory, Composition, or related fields.
> Previous college teaching experience.
> Ability to teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses music theory and composition.
> Ability to teach music technology courses, including use of DAWs and audio editing software.
> Ability to teach introductory general education music courses.
> Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching.
> Commitment to excellence in teaching, demonstrated teaching experience appropriate to the level of appointment, and evidence of scholarly/creative activity.
> Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.

SALARY
Salary commensurate with qualifications, experience and in accordance with the MSCA Bargaining Agreement

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
