Elon University (Elon, NC) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in music theory beginning mid-August 2024. This position requires someone who brings a broadly integrated and interdisciplinary perspective to music theory, who will hold a PhD in music theory or doctoral degree in a related field by August 2024. The successful candidate will reflect Elon’s teacher-scholar model, and will demonstrate scholarly activity, a promising research agenda, and show evidence of successful teaching in music theory and aural skills to college students from a variety of musical backgrounds and abilities. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and effective undergraduate music theory courses, mentor and foster students’ growth, and work collaboratively and collegially with other faculty in the department. The successful candidate will communicate the value of music theory to students considering a broad range of career paths, including performance, education, production, and recording. Additional expertise in sound studies, film music, current music trends, or interdisciplinary research/collaboration on diverse music, a plus.

Teaching responsibilities will include music theory and aural skills courses and courses in the Elon Core Curriculum. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people, and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter. Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
