The Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University is pleased to announce two searches for full-time faculty members at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Department of Music Theory, Ear Training, and Keyboard Skills. One search is for a faculty member who will teach courses in music theory (https://apply.interfolio.com/133403), and the other search is for a faculty member who will teach courses in ear training (https://apply.interfolio.com/133396). JOB DESCRIPTION

For the Theory position:
> Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, ranging from part-writing/harmony through advanced analytical methods
> Serving on departmental, school, and university committees
> Participating in departmental reviews and curriculum development
> Advising DMA students in preparation for comprehensive exams
> Maintaining an active profile of scholarship, composition, and/or performance

For the Ear Training position:
> Working as part of a team to teach all levels of ear training within our undergraduate and graduate curricula, including developing advanced electives in musicianship techniques and theory graduate seminars
> Serving on departmental, school, and university committees
> Participating in departmental reviews and curriculum development
> Maintaining an active profile of scholarship, composition, and performance

QUALIFICATIONS

For both positions: Qualified applicants will be able to document successful teaching experience at the collegiate level and an active profile of scholarship and/or artistic activities. A doctorate is preferred.

For the Ear-Training position: Applicants should be familiar with current trends in aural skills pedagogy and have experience teaching classroom ear training.

The Society for Music Theory celebrates its forty-seventh Annual Meeting at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel in Jacksonville, Florida, November 7–10, 2024.

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.

Student Helpers

We are in need of student volunteers to assist during the conference. Volunteers will receive a registration fee waiver in exchange for 6.5 hours of service. The deadline to apply is September 6
