Assistant Teaching Professor rank, non-tenure-eligible; full-time, promotable; 9-month appointment, renewable depending on effective performance, department needs, and funding. Duties begin August 19, 2024.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The NAU Kitt School of Music seeks a dynamic, creative, collaborative, and dedicated teacher of music theory and ear training. The successful candidate will foster student growth through successful teaching within curricular pathways for three undergraduate degrees in music (Bachelor of Music in Performance, Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Arts in Music) and the Master of Music. The position requires positive mentorship for students from a variety of backgrounds and ability levels, who are pursuing a broad range of careers, including education, performance, and liberal arts. Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music theory, analysis, and ear training.
Work collegially with allied faculty to support a progressive and integrated musicianship curriculum.
Committee and service assignments consistent with all faculty appointments.
Teach in a secondary area, such as digital music production, jazz theory, or the analysis of world music, depending
on needs of the department and candidate expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: Doctorate in Music Theory or related field. Keyboard skills sufficient for teaching classroom music theory and aural skills. Preferred: Track record of successful teaching at the college/university level. Demonstrated achievement in supporting student success through mentorship and advising. Background in performance or composition indicating active and accomplished musicianship. Background in digital music production. Training, experience, and/or theoretical expertise in one or more contemporary music practices, including all varieties of popular music. Experience teaching in a secondary area.

SALARY
Commensurate with academic qualifications and relevant experience.

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
