The Department is inviting applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Music. We seek a dynamic, interdisciplinary scholar and teacher whose work engages with musics in/of China and/or the Sinophone world.

Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially commencing August 2024, which, subject to performance and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties include: (a) teaching two courses per semester at undergraduate/postgraduate levels; (b) conducting innovative research and securing research grants; (c) supervising student projects and postgraduate theses; and (d) assisting in administrative duties.

The appointee is expected to enhance the Department's research and teaching profiles, and to contribute to the growth of interdisciplinary initiatives in and across the Department and the Faculty of Arts.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should have: (i) a PhD degree in music or a relevant field that engages music as a locus of scholarship, practice, and analysis; (ii) a record of outstanding publications and successful grant applications, or clear potential thereof; and (iii) a strong commitment to teach courses and conduct research related to musics in/of China and/or the Sinophone world, as well as in a secondary area (geographic and/or theoretical) that complements and expands existing faculty interests and the wider environment of scholarship and practice at CUHK.

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
