Assistant Professor of Music Theory, Tenure-Track
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music theory, including core undergraduate musicianship (combined written theory and aural skills), advanced undergraduate courses in analysis, post-tonal theory, and/or counterpoint, and graduate courses in tonal and/or post-tonal analysis and seminars in areas of specialized interest; sustain a national professional profile of music theory research and publication that reflects the career of a consistently productive scholar; serve on appropriate student and faculty committees and maintain active participation in other Conservatory activities; contribute to all facets of the Division of Music and the Conservatory, including academic, performance, and service components characteristic of a Conservatory within a university; make contributions that enrich the cultural environment and the quality of life in the greater Kansas City metropolitan community.
This is a 9-month, full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit-eligible tenure-track faculty appointment to begin with Fall 2025 semester. Our academic schedule and workload provide for a positive work/life balance.

Candidates should demonstrate innovative and successful experience teaching courses in music theory in a university setting and are encouraged to describe how they would contribute to our theory curriculum in inventive ways through repertoire and pedagogical techniques.
Evidence of emerging or established productivity as a scholar at the national level (research specialization area open); strong commitment to teaching and mentorship;
PhD in Music Theory required (ABD considered, but degree must be completed by start of appointment).
