Lecturer of Music in Violin
JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Music at Smith College invites applications for a three-year, benefits-eligible faculty position in Violin at the rank of Lecturer to begin July 1, 2025. Lecturers at Smith College teach the equivalent of five courses per year. In this position, teaching responsibilities will comprise a combination of weekly one-on-one violin lessons, one section per semester of MUS 904: Introduction to Violin Ensemble, regular work with students in the Smith College Orchestra, and weekly one-hour chamber music coaching as needed. Successful candidates will also be expected to perform regularly with colleagues as part of the artistic programming of the department. In addition, the position entails administration and oversight of the string program, including string instrument management and supervision of pro-rata string instructors. Other departmental service, such as committee work, will also be expected.

QUALIFICATIONS

We seek an accomplished musician with substantial college or university teaching experience and a strong record of performing and teaching excellence. Candidates should have the ability to teach at a variety of levels from beginning to advanced. Applicants must possess a Master of Arts degree or higher from a related field. Candidates from groups underrepresented in academia are encouraged to apply.
