The Department of Music at Hartwick College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in August, 2020, pending final administrative approval. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, active engagement in scholarly or creative activities, and working closely with today’s students in a small college environment. Committee service and academic advising also are expected for tenure and promotion.
Specific teaching assignments will include the full Music Theory course sequence required for all music majors, plus other undergraduate music courses depending upon the expertise of the candidate and academic needs within the department. Teaching load will average 20 semester credit hours or their equivalent per academic year, and all faculty members teach during the College’s distinctive four-week January Term.
We seek candidates with expertise in Music Theory, with strong preference given to those with experience in Applied Music teaching in Flute or Oboe, as well as Chamber Music. Minimum qualifications include Ph.D. in Music Theory or DMA in Flute or Oboe performance with minimum 5 years teaching experience in Music Theory by the time of the appointment.
