Assistant Professor of Music Analysis

We invite applications for the role of Assistant Professor in Music Analysis, tenable from 1 September 2021. The successful candidate will specialise in any musical style or tradition, from any analytical or theoretical angle, including (but not limited to) formal, historical, computational, ethnographic and cognitive perspectives. Ranked first in the Sunday Times, Guardian and Complete University Guide league tables in 2021 and third overall among music departments in the last national research evaluation (REF2014), Durham’s Music Department is one of the best in the UK, with internationally renowned research strengths in musicology, theory and analysis, music technology and computational musicology, music psychology, ethnomusicology, composition, and performance.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and curriculum development in the fields of music analysis and music theory (broadly conceived) and may also contribute towards teaching in other areas. You will conduct high-quality research in your field of expertise and will be expected to develop connections and interdisciplinary dialogue between your field and other areas supported by the Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have a good first degree and a PhD in music analysis, music theory or related fields in musicology.

SALARY
£33,797–£49,553 p.a.

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
