Part-time Lecturer in Theory and Aural Skills
Begins August 2021
The Department of Music at Spelman College invites applicants for a one-semester, part-time lecturer for the Fall semester of 2021. The successful candidate will teach the first and second levels of music theory/aural skills classes. Each section is a combined theory/aural skills class that meets four days a week for 50 minutes. The class is taught in a piano studio with the goal to integrate theory, aural skills, and piano to strengthen each area.
Specific Course(s) to be taught:
SMUS 113A Music Theory I, MTWR 1:00-1:50 pm; 4 credits
SMUS 113B Music Theory II, MTWR 4:00-4:50 pm; 4 credits
The successful candidate should be willing to work closely with students at a Liberal Arts college with a commitment to teaching and engagement of students.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate discipline (e.g. music theory or composition) at the time of application
Preferred Qualifications:
ABD, DMA, or Ph.D.in music theory or closely related field (piano performance or composition); previous experience of teaching courses in music theory.
