UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER HUMANITIES CENTER invites applications from tenure-track faculty (open rank) for its 2022-23 fellowships.

The fellowship period is September 1, 2022 to May 15, 2023.

The Center supports research in literature, history, the arts, cultures, and philosophies past and present. The theme for 2022-23 is “Futures (Past and Present).” Fellowship applicants should be involved in projects that address the theme, broadly understood. The fellowship period is September 1, 2022 to May 15, 2023. Fellows are expected to be in residence in Rochester and to attend a weekly seminar. They will receive a stipend up to $60,000 (commensurate with experience and need) and may apply for additional funds for research and travel.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Fellows will participate in the bi-weekly Humanities Center seminar and in the Center’s other workshops, conferences, and programs. They are expected to be in residence in Rochester and to play an active role in the Center’s community of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates. Fellows will present the results of their research at least once during their tenure at the Center.

QUALIFICATIONS

External fellowships are awarded to scholars who hold tenure-track positions at other institutions. Faculty at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Professor may apply.

Applicants’ proposals must address the theme of "Futures (Past and Present)." Projects might address: climate change; modernisms and reassertions of traditions; intergenerational obligations; crisis and resilience; apocalyptic and utopian frameworks; Afrofuturism; futurisms and literary studies; movements for reform, revolution, and social change; science fiction; ideas of progress; concepts of human development across time, place, and culture; and the future of higher education for democratic citizenship.

Applicants may be in any field of humanistic study, including anthropology, art and art history, classics, English, history, modern languages and cultures, music, philosophy, or religion.

SALARY
Fellows will receive a stipend up to $60,000 (commensurate with experience and need), and may apply for funds to support research and travel, contingent on available resources.

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
