Assistant or Associate Professor of Music Theory, Tenure-track appointment in Music Studies.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Teaching duties will include but not be limited to undergraduate courses in the music-theory sequence, undergraduate writing courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, graduate seminars, and courses for non-music majors. An ability to advise research at the graduate level is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

A completed PhD in music theory is required.

The Boyer College of Music and Dance seeks a music theorist who is open to interdisciplinary approaches. The ideal candidate will have a record of publications with a national reputation or a strong promise for obtaining one. The candidate must be capable of creating innovative courses for both music majors and non-majors. The successful candidate must be able to engage highly talented musicians and dancers who major in a variety of performance and academic areas (jazz, performance, musicology, music theory, music technology, composition, music therapy, music education, and dance). A record of strong teaching is required.

Preference will be given for candidates who will help the department transform the curriculum with emphasis on new, expansive, and ethical considerations. The successful candidate will have expertise in an array of musical repertories and a familiarity with developments in music theory, analysis, and musicology, with a research area that complements existing faculty.

SALARY
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
