JOB DESCRIPTION

Teach three courses for Fall and four courses for Spring semester, attendance at music theory TA orientation; attendance at music theory colloquia; proctor exams (u’grad waiver, grad orientation, DMA comp) in rotation with other theory faculty; participation in MM Theory capstones (teaching demonstrations, keyboard exams) in rotation with other theory faculty; service on MM committees during F22, then on MM/DMA committees in S23; supervision of graduate teaching assistance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Degree: Masters

Minimum Requirements:
> Successful university-level teaching experience
> A demonstrated commitment to music theory pedagogy
> A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
> Current expertise in one or more research areas within music theory

Desired Qualifications:
> Demonstrated ability to mentor student research
> An emerging or established record of scholarly productivity
> Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at multiple levels and in a variety of subjects within our curriculum, including undergraduate core music theory and aural skills; graduate analysis courses on a variety of repertoires and techniques; graduate skills courses such as counterpoint and keyboard skills; and specialized readings seminars and proseminars for Master’s students in music theory

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.

Student Helpers

We are in need of student volunteers to assist during the conference. Volunteers will receive a registration fee waiver in exchange for 6.5 hours of service. The deadline to apply is September 6
