The University of Notre Dame seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor to teach in the Music Department and in the graduate-level Program in Sacred Music, beginning August 2023. We are looking for a researcher of exceptional promise with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, a willingness to think broadly about music, an ability to develop ethnomusicological dimensions in courses and curriculum, and to collaborate with our faculty and many international programs. We welcome all specializations, in any music-culture(s) or repertories, including (but not necessarily limited to) ethnomusicology, cultural anthropology, music history, cultural studies, performance studies, ritual studies, and sound studies.
The appointee will be expected to maintain an active research and publication record, and teach a range of courses, including core classes, ensembles, and advanced electives for music majors, and introductory and writing-intensive courses for non-majors. The department is currently revising its curriculum, and the appointee will play a key role in the expansion of course offerings. There is also an opportunity to teach graduate-level courses in the Program in Sacred Music.
The appointee must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree or have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. by June 2023.
The deadline for application is October 8, 2022. Please submit a cover letter outlining teaching qualifications and research interests, a CV, and three letters of reference to http://apply.interfolio.com/112794. No further materials will be considered at this stage of the process.
Notre Dame supports its tenure-track faculty with a wide range of programs and funding, including the Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning, the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts, and Notre Dame Research. Additionally, the appointee will be encouraged to collaborate with the University's global centers and partnerships around the world.
