Full Time Faculty, Harmony and Jazz Composition
GENERAL INFO

Berklee College of Music invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Harmony and Jazz Composition. During the required four semesters of Harmony, students study common popular harmonic practice, melodic development, and melody/harmony relationships in contemporary styles. Students learn basic theory, analyze pop, rock and jazz tunes, and apply their knowledge of topics in writing projects. With the work in other Core departments, this provides the crucial foundation and working vocabulary for students’ major studies. This is a 9-month full-time faculty position, initial appointment to begin September 1st, 2024.

JOB DESCRIPTION

> Teach courses in Harmony
> Advance the student experience and the work of the Department, the Division, and the College
> Contribute to curriculum development and review
> Attend departmental meetings
> Use the Learning Management System to support classroom instruction
> Other Duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

> Masters of Music or equivalent professional experience
> 5+ years of college classroom teaching experience in harmony/theory; ear training, songwriting, composition or arranging is a plus
> Extensive experience writer/player of a wide variety of contemporary styles
> Professional level transcription, notation, and arranging skills
> Strong music technology skills
> Ability to creatively implement a highly structured curriculum
> Ability to use keyboard as a learning modality for core subjects

The ideal candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching and enjoy working in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding. The ideal candidate will have experience with students who struggle with the foundational components of the written theory tradition.

SALARY
Compensation is commensurate with professional experience.

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
