The Department of Music at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as assistant professor in musicology, broadly defined to include the full range of music studies’ subdisciplines and interdisciplinary conversations.
The department’s faculty includes composers, conductors and ensemble directors, performers, scholars, and sound engineers engaged in manifold creative practices in a liberal arts context. Our current academic faculty members critically employ methods from cultural studies, ethnomusicology, historical musicology, music theory, popular music studies, and sound studies. We seek a colleague with a record of accomplishment and a clear trajectory for future excellence as a scholar and teacher whose intellectual profile and expertise complement and expand upon our collective investments.
We welcome applications from candidates whose work aligns with our departmental mission as outlined on our website. The successful candidate will contribute to our MA/PhD program by teaching graduate students. They will also teach within and nurture our newly revised music curriculum. Further responsibilities include developing lecture courses that contribute to the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum of UNC-CH. This position contains a 2-2 teaching load.
Candidates must possess a record of research related to the study of music and/or sound and a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by the position start date.
