The Jacobs School of Music seeks candidates for a tenured or tenure-track position in music theory. Expected start date: August 1, 2025.
Responsibilities will include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in music theory, including core theory classes in large-lecture format; supervising research in area(s) of expertise; maintaining an active program of research and scholarly publication; and participating in departmental committees, doctoral advisory committees, and other departmental activities, as well as service on Jacobs School of Music committees.
The department will review applications from both junior and senior scholars. Junior applicants should have an emerging national reputation in publication, teaching, and service. Senior applicants should be nationally and internationally known and have demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and service.

We are particularly interested in candidates who work on nineteenth, twentieth, or twenty-first-century musics. Also of interest are candidates who help to expand our curriculum as we envision the future of our field. The music theory department is equally committed to excellence in teaching and to fostering scholarship in both new and existing areas in the discipline.
