The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam (Potsdam, NY) seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Professor of Music Theory, with open specialization. Successful candidates will bring creative and innovative approaches to the study of music, and will demonstrate the capacity to recruit and teach students with diverse interests and backgrounds. Preference will be given to candidates with additional expertise in one or more of the areas under Preferred Qualifications.
Responsibilities will include teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service. Teaching duties will include courses in the core music theory/aural skills sequence, upper-level elective courses as relevant, and other courses as determined by the School of Music. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain or develop a regional and national reputation as a scholar, and to participate in service to the university, school, and department. This position may require teaching during evening/weekend hours, online, or at off-site SUNY Potsdam locations.
Terminal degree in Music Theory at time of appointment.
Demonstrated record of success in teaching at the university level.
Demonstrated record of success in research.
Demonstrated support of diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational setting.
