The Department of Music at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) is seeking to hire for a Special Appointment in Music. This full-time position will begin August 2025. This is a full-time, one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewals for a second and third year.
The successful candidate will complete 12 credits of load activity. Primary teaching duties will be in the area of music technology, including Introduction to Music Technology and upper-level courses in the music major and minor in Music, Technology, and Media. Additional teaching duties will be assigned based on the successful candidate’s teaching and professional expertise and may include:
- Courses in theory, musicianship, and arranging
- Courses in music history, including music appreciation and style surveys of various periods/genres. Expertise in contemporary musical styles and media (film, videogames) is of particular interest.
- Leadership of Southern’s “small” ensembles (6-10 musicians), which perform in diverse styles. Expertise in leading bands performing commercial/contemporary repertoire is of particular interest.
Minimum qualifications:
- Earned master’s degree in music technology, composition, or a closely-related field;
- Demonstrated potential as a high-quality instructor at the college level;
- Demonstrated potential for creative activity (scholarship, performance, or composition) and professional activity in music;
Preferred qualifications:
- Earned doctorate or ABD status in music;
- Experience as an instructor in music at the college level;
- A track record of creative activity (scholarship, performance, or composition) and professional activity in music.
