The Music Theory Society of Florida State University is pleased to announce its 43rd annual Music Theory Forum to be held in-person from Friday, March 6 through Saturday, March 7, 2026. We are excited to welcome Professors Yayoi Uno Everett (Hunter College and the Graduate Center, CUNY) and Jane Piper Clendinning (in honor of her final year of teaching at FSU and many years of service to FSU-MTS) as this year’s keynote speakers.

The Music Theory Society is currently soliciting paper proposals on any topic related to music theory, with preference towards topics related to music theory pedagogy, narrative analysis, opera, and multimedia studies. All proposals must be submitted electronically in PDF format and must be received by 11:59 PM EST on Monday, December 1st, 2025. Please email these PDF files to: fsumts.forum@gmail.com. Submissions should include the following:

An anonymous proposal of no more than 500 words, including any footnotes or endnotes. A maximum of four pages of supplementary materials may be appended (which will not be counted within the word limit, but should not appreciably add to the word count or content of the proposal);

An anonymous abstract of no more than 150 words suitable for publication;

A cover letter written in the body of the email providing the title of the proposal, the author’s name and institutional affiliation, phone number, and e-mail address.

We aim to notify selected presenters by late January. Accepted presentations will be twenty minutes in length and will be presented in person at FSU on either March 6th or 7th, 2026, followed by ten minutes of discussion for each paper. Information regarding registration for the conference will be available at fsumts.wordpress.com by late January. Questions about any aspect of the Music Theory Forum may be directed to the Forum co-chairs, Luis Matos-Tovar and Brandon Scribner, at fsumts.forum@gmail.com.
