2025 Indiana University Annual Symposium of Research in Music: Call for Papers

Hosted jointly by the Graduate Theory Association and Graduate Musicology Association
Jacobs School of Music, Bloomington, Indiana
Friday, February 21st and Saturday, February 22nd, 2025

Proposal deadline: December 1st, 2024

The Graduate Theory Association and Graduate Musicology Association of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music are pleased to announce their joint 2025 Symposium.

We are very pleased to welcome Prof. Poundie Burstien of the CUNY Grad Center as our keynote speaker this year. Additionally, we are delighted to announce featured talks and workshops by newly appointed faculty: Profs. Lina Tabak and Amy Tai (Music Theory), and Profs. Jacquelyn Sholes and Jennifer Saltzstein (Musicology).

We are currently soliciting proposals relevant to any subfield of music research, including (but not limited to) music theory, music analysis, musicology, and related disciplines. As we hope to feature a wide variety of conversations, papers may address any musical repertoire.

Paper presentations will be twenty minutes in length and delivered in-person at Ford-Crawford Hall, Jacobs School of Music. Each presenter can expect five to ten minutes of Q&A following their talk. Accepted papers will be organized in sessions of three.

The deadline to submit a proposal is Sunday, December 1st, 2024. Submissions should consist of a 200–400 word proposal submitted using the form in the event link. Only electronic submissions will be accepted. A maximum of 2 pages of supplemental materials, including up to 3 figures and a bibliography, may also be submitted; this is recommended for music theory papers.

You will be asked for your name, email address, institutional affiliation (if any), and academic status, but do not include any such identifying information in your proposal or accompanying materials.

Any questions may be addressed to gta@iu.edu
