“Not Your Mama’s Feminism:” Call for Submissions for Project Spectrum’s 2026 Zine
Submission Deadline
Starts

Otherwise known as intersectional feminism. Public feminism. Hood feminism. Third world feminism. Anti-facist feminism.

In conjunction with the Feminist Theory and Music conference in June 2026, we invite intellectual musings, interdisciplinary and multimedia experiments, and creative meditations on your blossoming definition and performance of feminism. Project Spectrum is calling for submissions for this year’s digital and print zine, to be published and distributed in May 2026. We’re asking questions such as, “What is feminism doing in music studies? How do we, as musicians, use creative practice to move from feminist theory into lived praxis? What is the literature that continues to ignite your new approaches to feminism? What is the role of music (studies) in addressing the world’s most pressing crises of gendered and queer inequality and violence?”

Our deadline is soon approaching. Use this as an opportunity to reject overthinking and instead experiment with writing style (including but not limited to poetry, prose, fiction, and spoken word), visual art (such as collages, drawings, paintings, and photography), and music (like compositions, recordings, jam sessions, mixtapes, and playlists).

Send submissions to projectspectrummusic@gmail.com; they are due March 27 at 11:59 pm PST. We welcome essays up to roughly 3,000 words, recordings and compositions up to 5:00 minutes, visual art up to two full pages, and links/QR codes to online collections of content.
