Submission Deadline

The Society for Music Analysis is pleased to announce an online workshop on the process of writing and submitting a proposal for the Society for Music Theory’s annual conference, with a particular focus on cross-cultural and disciplinary expectations surrounding music theory. The event takes place online on Thursday, January 22 from 5:00-6:30 PM GMT (12:00-1:30 PM EST). This workshop also reflects increased collaboration between the SMA and SMT, further cultivating music theory’s international landscape. It will be run by two veterans of the SMT’s program committee:

  • Janet Bourne, Associate Professor of Music Theory at the University of California, Santa Barbara
  • Stephen Rodgers, Professor of Music Theory and Musicianship at the University of Oregon and Vice President of SMT

This event will involve a presentation from the speakers, followed by targeted discussion of specific proposals. If you would like to receive feedback on your (anonymised) proposal, please email a copy to jbourne@music.ucsb.edu and ser@uoregon.edu by 1 January. This workshop is a great opportunity to get unique and specialised insights into the SMT proposal process!
