Great Basin College is seeking highly qualified individuals for a full-time, tenure-track music instructor position at its main campus in Elko, Nevada. The position begins August 2020. The individual hired for this position will be expected to teach a heavy load of music courses and manage relevant studio facilities. The person selected for this position will be expected to assist in the coordination of part-time fine arts faculty and liaise with the needs of the GBC theatre. Great Basin College has a mission to serve the higher education needs of rural Nevada, and as such, teaching requires extensive use of distance education technology and occasional travel in our extensive service area. Distance delivery and live courses will be with interactive video classes to multiple sites, online, and with evolving technologies.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful candidate will teach curriculum in music, mentor and coordinate student internships, and participate in curriculum planning and assessment. Additional teaching responsibilities are contingent upon the candidate’s qualifications. Other responsibilities for this position include academic advising, assist in the management of studio facilities and college productions, serve on institutional committees as appropriate, and work cooperatively with colleagues to realize the mission of the college.

The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for teaching music for transfer students Must be able to evaluate the music needs of the GBC community online and within our service area. For candidates with an appropriate background, opportunities to teach and develop language courses may be included. Further responsibilities include:

> Perform all duties as required of all full-time GBC faculty (full workload of 15 units per semester, advising, committee work, maintain office hours, etc.)
> Help coordinate and mentor instruction by GBC part-time faculty
> Participate in the development and teaching of upper-division courses and integrative seminars as necessary
> Work as a team member with a genuine spirit of cooperation, collaboration, and flexibility in a college setting
> Continue professional development professionally and pedagogically
> Advise and recruit students
> Handle administrative duties related to teaching and program development including strategic planning and assessment
> Travel by car throughout the GBC service area as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation as per the Americans with Disabilities Act
> Participate in the social and cultural development, as well as the performance needs, of the college and community
> Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

> A minimum of a Master's degree in music or a closely related field
> A background or experience in music education and theory is mandatory
> Willingness to teach a combination of evening, weekend, interactive video, and online classes is essential. > Experience in online and interactive video instruction is preferred
> Commitment to the college mission is essential
> A student-centered teaching philosophy that encompasses design, delivery, and assessment
> An understanding of various levels of preparation and learning styles represented in the typical classroom

SALARY
Annual salary range is $46,500 - $70,000 commensurate with experience and education.

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
