We warmly invite all members of our community to join us at NYU from June 6–8 for our summer workshop, Transitions: A Pedagogy Workshop for Evolving Music Theory Curricula.
This weekend-long event will feature hands-on pedagogy workshops, collaborative poster sessions, and lively discussions as we reflect on recent developments in undergraduate music theory and aural skills curriculum and explore emerging directions in theory pedagogy. Topics will include global music traditions, popular music, repertoire by underrepresented composers, and innovative approaches to curriculum design.

Thanks to generous support from the NYU Teaching Advancement and Working Group Grants, there is no cost to attend the workshop. Registration is free; however, space is limited. We encourage those interested to complete the registration form by April 30. All submissions will be reviewed, and selected participants will be notified by May 1st.

In addition to the workshops, participants are invited to share posters featuring syllabi, lesson plans, curriculum designs, classroom activities, assignments, projects, resources, or tools related to global or popular music, underrepresented composers, or inclusive teaching practices.

Our goals are to equip participants with concrete lesson materials and strategies for immediate classroom use, foster the exchange of ideas and resources, and build a supportive network of educators committed to inclusive and expansive music theory pedagogy.

Workshop leaders include: Paula Maust, Jocelyn Neal, Trevor de Clercq, Lina Tabak, Tomoko Deguchi, Adem Birson, Kevin Laskey, and Sooyeon Lyuh. Sarah Louden and Clifton Boyd will join for the open panel discussion.
