Do you want to explore corpus-wide musical analyses or master digital editing and publishing techniques?

Full-tuition scholarships available!

Since 2018, the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) has offered the course "[Foundations] Introduction to Digital Approaches in Music Research". We are delighted to announce its return as DHSI Montréal, Summer 2026!
This intensive course introduces the theory and practice of encoding electronic musical scores. Designed for graduate students, early career researchers, and established scholars, it is ideal for anyone planning a music-encoding project or seeking a deeper understanding of the philosophy, theory, and practicalities of encoding notated music.

Participants will also explore strategies for integrating sound and text files with encoded notation. A basic ability to read music is required, but no prior coding experience is necessary.

The course will run from June 8–12, 2026, in Montreal.
