For its 2026 Journées d'Analyse Musicale, the SFAM (French Society for Music Analysis) has formed a partnership with Université Bordeaux Montaigne, Conservatoire de Bordeaux Jacques-Thibaud and SCRIME. As in previous editions, the aim of this conference is to bring together researchers and musicians in the form of scientific meetings covering the broad field of music analysis and theory.
The conference will take place over two days: Friday, 20 November and Saturday, 21 November, 2026.
The theme of this edition is the relationship between orality and notation in music in terms of its analysis and transmission.
Contributions may take the form of a traditional paper (20 minutes followed by 10 minutes discussion) or other formats such as roundtables, workshops, masterclasses, or concert-analyses (variable duration, to be specified at the time of submission).
Proposals for contributions, in French or English, should include the following:
A first document, anonymous, including:
information about the type of contribution planned (paper or other). In the case of a roundtable, workshop, masterclass, or concert-analysis, please specify the expected duration and, if applicable, the equipment required for its realization;
the title of the contribution;
a summary of the contribution, maximum 2,500 characters including spaces, clearly specifying the relevance of the contribution to the conference theme;
a few bibliographical references to support the proposal.
A second, separate document, including:
the title of the contribution;
the identity and contact details of the authors. In the case of a joint proposal, please indicate the name of the person who will handle correspondence with the organising committee;
affiliation status and institution, if applicable.
All proposals will be evaluated by the JAM 2026 Scientific Committee. They should be sent by the 1st of June 2026 to the following address: contact@sfam.org
Participation in JAM 2026 is contingent upon 2026 membership of the French Society for Music Analysis (SFAM) by all authors, except for faculty members and students of the partner institutions (Université Bordeaux Montaigne, Conservatoire de Bordeaux Jacques-Thibaud, SCRIME).
