I am pleased to share the call for applications for the international thematic school “Rhythmologies: Thinking, Analysing and Embodying Musical Time”, organised within the framework of Festum π, an international festival dedicated to the relationships between music and mathematics.
The school will take place from 27 to 31 July 2026 in Chania, Crete (Greece), and will bring together advanced students, doctoral candidates, early-career researchers, performers, and composers for an interdisciplinary exploration of the many ways in which musical time can be conceived, organised, experienced, and transmitted.
Through lectures, workshops, discussions, and participant presentations, and in dialogue with the festival’s artistic programme, the school will address questions of rhythm, temporality, perception, performance, transmission, and music pedagogy, fostering exchanges between musicology, analysis, composition, and artistic practice.
Contributors include Claude Ledoux, Lorenda Ramou, Katerina Fotinaki, Dora Manitaki, and Théodora Psychoyou, alongside additional contributions from artists, educators, and invited guests of the festival, including a public rehearsal and discussion with renowned pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque, as well as an encounter with mathematician Cédric Villani (Fiels medal laureate, scientific director of Festum π).
