Call for Contributions

Research in Sound Studies unfolds across a wide range of disciplinary contexts, from musicology and composition to comparative literature, from media studies to anthropology, and from geography to engineering. Likewise, different learners (whether students, practitioners, or lifelong explorers in both academic and community-based settings) engage with sound in ways that transcend traditional academic boundaries, using it to express themselves, investigate their environments, and better understand their local and global communities.

This book, published by the Mexican Center for Music and Sonic Arts (CMMAS), seeks to gather international perspectives on the pedagogy of sound studies.

We invite submissions of approximately 4,000 - 5,000 words, in either English or Spanish, that explore the teaching and learning of sound across diverse institutional, disciplinary, and creative contexts.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

• Philosophical approaches to sound in learning spaces
• Interdisciplinary student collaborations
• Community engaged learning and research
• Reflections on the intersection of teaching, scholarship, and creative practice
• Creative assessments and projects involving sound, media, and technology
• Lesson plans and innovative pedagogical approaches to sound
• Manifestos on the importance of sound in twenty-first century education
• Essays situating sound studies within the arts, humanities, and sciences
• International collaborations related to sound, music, media, and technology

We welcome contributions that challenge disciplinary boundaries and offer new ways of thinking about sound as a pedagogical, creative, and intellectual practice.
