The Department of Music at the University of York, UK, seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Music, with expertise in Black Music Studies or Global Musics. We welcome specialisms related to any genre or period and diverse methodologies, including practice-research approaches. Scholars who identify as Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join our vibrant and international Department, which prides itself on its supportive environment for staff and students, integration of theory and creative practice, and deep-rooted commitment to excellence in teaching and research.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The post is offered on a full-time open contract basis, and includes teaching, research and administration. The successful candidate will contribute to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, undertake PhD supervision as appropriate, and enhance our reputation for highly innovative, impactful research. You will contribute to our ongoing project to decolonise the curriculum and make our community more inclusive. Administrative duties will involve participation in relevant committees as well as activities related to pastoral care, student recruitment and public outreach.

QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in Music or other relevant subject area, or equivalent experience; appropriate academic professional and teaching qualifications or a willingness to complete York’s Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.
