Haverford College (Haverford, PA) welcomes applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Music, with an anticipated starting date of July 2023.
The Department of Music (https://www.haverford.edu/music) serves students at both Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges, and offers a rich array of courses for both majors and non-majors. The Department’s new building includes the technologically-rich Jaharis Recital Hall, as well as state-of-the-art facilities for music teaching, practice, research, and production. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to various musical disciplines, help to create a comprehensive and balanced musical curriculum, and actively seek connections with other departments within the College and the Bi-College community, including Fine Arts, Visual Studies, Computer Science, and Film Studies (at Bryn Mawr). VCAM (Visual Culture, Arts, and Media) offers resources for program development and creative projects involving the entire campus community. The Philadelphia area provides many other opportunities for musical growth, community connection, and collaboration.
Electronic/computer music and multimedia (film, graphics, interactive performance) will be an artistically significant aspect of the successful candidate’s creative practice, but it need not be the exclusive focus of that practice. The successful candidate will be expected to teach the core undergraduate courses in music theory and composition, along with courses which might include fundamentals of digital audio synthesis, sound design, electronic/computer music history and practice, or music for film and video. In addition, the candidate will be able to supervise senior composition projects in sound/media art. Experience in developing collaborative community-based projects would be highly desirable. A complementary musical competance (e.g. performance) or research interest is welcomed.
