The Department of Music and Dance in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a faculty position in music theory. This is a full-time, nine-month position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level, to begin September 1, 2023. We particularly welcome applications from candidates whose research and teaching will add new repertoires, methodologies, and perspectives to the existing strengths of the Department’s faculty.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research and scholarly activity; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music theory and aural skills, with additional teaching responsibilities based on the candidate’s areas of expertise and the needs of the Department; serve on departmental committees and perform other appropriate university and professional service; and assist with undergraduate and graduate recruiting, advising, and mentoring.

ABD in music theory is required for consideration. PhD in music theory is required at the time of appointment. Excellence in research and teaching and a commitment to participating in an energetic department are essential.
