Bob Jones University Division of Music seeks to hire a music theory professor with a Christian worldview for a full-time appointment. The successful candidate will be a ministry-minded leader and pedagogue who will show a commitment to the mission of BJU and the Division of Music and will contribute proactively to the spiritual, intellectual and artistic life of this Christian liberal arts university.

JOB DESCRIPTION

> Teach undergraduate courses in music theory from a biblical worldview.
> Collaborate with others within the academic school, division and department.
> Other responsibilities may include teaching applied lessons in composition, instrumental studies, vocal studies, keyboard studies, and/or music technology, according to academic qualifications and experience.
> Actively recruit prospective students for the Division of Music
> Actively engage in professional development related to the position.
> Actively maintain a professional profile through engagements as a lecturer, writer, or guest performer.
> Actively serve the local church and community.
> Other duties may include advising students on academic matters, performing in faculty ensembles, and assisting with service duties as needed within the program, division or academic school.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
> Advanced degree in music theory or comparable field with a concentration in music theory; doctorate preferred (ABD considered)
> Three to four years related experience

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
> Display the ability to communicate at a high level musically, verbally and in written communication
> Display the ability to collaborate successfully with other musicians in rehearsal, performance, and in professional and personal interactions
> Exhibit a refined level of excellence in personal performance
> Successful record of teaching and research at levels appropriate to departmental needs
> Evidence of strong research skills or success as a composer
> Proven record of significant work in the field
> Express a mature philosophy of music making from a Christian worldview
> Active membership in professional organization (E.G. MTNA, etc.)

Hotel Reservations 

The Hyatt Regency Riverfront Hotel (225 E Coastline Drive) has reserved a block of rooms for conference attendees. The rates are $169/night for single and double occupancy; $194/night for triple occupancy; $219/night for quadruple occupancy; and $169 for student quadruple occupancy (limited rooms available). Hotel reservations for non-students may be made online.  SMT student members should have received an email with a code to reserve at the student rate; please email Jennifer Diaz at smt@societymusictheory.org if you did not receive the email. 

Using the conference room block at this hotel helps us meet our contractual obligations and keeps you close to all conference activities.

Student Helpers

We are in need of student volunteers to assist during the conference. Volunteers will receive a registration fee waiver in exchange for 6.5 hours of service. The deadline to apply is September 6
