The Department of Music at Carleton College (Northfield, MN) is pleased to announce a full-time position in Music Theory at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track). We seek an emerging scholar with a strong background in teaching music theory and related subjects to small groups of undergraduates in a liberal arts setting. We are looking for a candidate whose research interests will complement the methodologies and expertise of the other members of the department. As such, we seek candidates with interdisciplinary approaches to music theory and analysis; these might include the analysis of popular and world musics, multimedia theory and analysis, corpus studies, music cognition, computational approaches, and/or gender/ LGBTQIA+ studies. JOB DESCRIPTION

The position involves teaching core courses in our music theory curriculum as well as additional courses in the candidate’s area(s) of interest (see https://www.carleton.edu/music/major/requirements-2/ for specific information regarding our curriculum). Carleton's academic calendar involves three 10-week terms per year; a FT teaching load is 2-2-1. We seek candidates who will be able to forge teaching connections with other departments on campus, and we are particularly interested in candidates committed to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts context.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should have a PhD in Music Theory or a related field, and should have their degree in hand before the position begins on September 1, 2024.
